Diversity in Catholic Schools
A common misconception that many people have about Catholic schools is that they are elite schools meant only for upper-class Caucasian kids. But nothing could be further from the truth. Did you know that nearly 20% of students enrolled in Catholic schools are minorities? 16% of those minorities are Latino, around 8% are African-American, more than 5% are Asian, and 6% are from other cultural backgrounds. And, studies show that minority children who attend Catholic schools are more likely to graduate from high school and college.
Not only that, but Catholic schools do not require a child to be Catholic in order to attend. Over 17% of all Catholic school students are from non-Catholic backgrounds. This just goes to show that, when it comes to giving our children a good education, Catholics believe that every child – regardless of ethnicity or religion – deserves the absolute best!
